A comprehensive 1½ hour assessment is
conducted using a combination of standardised assessments and
clinical observations. Areas of assessment will be determined by the
age of the child and difficulties expressed by the referrer and care
giver.
Assessment is essential in determining strengths and weaknesses of
the child, i.e. what is helping or stopping them from completing
appropriate/expected tasks. This establishes a start point for
intervention and development of goals.
Other areas of assessment may include ...
• Special provisions for examinations
• Environmental modifications in the
school and home
• Prescription of specialist equipment
Report
A detailed written report will be sent to parents. Parents may wish
to inform the OT what other professionals involved with the child
would like a copy of the report.
Parent/Therapist
Consultation
A 15 minute consultation is scheduled to enable parents to ask
questions about the report. If a program of therapy is recommended,
therapy goals are established in consultation with parents.
The report and consultation are included in the initial assessment
fee. |
